Biographical Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process in which we work together to create an open, trustworthy and supportive relationship, in which issues that concern you are worked with so that you may experience more fulfilment in your life. These may relate to a specific situation you find yourself in, and might be resolved to your satisfaction through a short course of counselling. However, if they relate to deep and recurring patterns in your biography, then longer term psychotherapy may be needed. It is difficult to know at the outset how long you may need and what our work together will be about. The only thing you may be certain of is that you want things to change.

What are the benefits of Counselling?

Counselling can help you to know yourself better and work on your own development. If you want things to change, the process of counselling/psychotherapy can support you and help you identify the options to make the necessary steps to change. It is central to the success of counselling or psychotherapy that you develop a strong relationship of trust and respect with your counsellor. This will help to generate the change that is needed to heal and strengthen you. It is a process that happens in a gradual and manageable way. When struggle and crisis are supported in this way they become opportunities for personal growth and development.

Biographical Counselling

Lucila works with Biographical Counselling, which is deeply interested in the stories of our lives. It aims to help us claim our own stories, make meaning out of them and develop our future creatively. Biographical Counselling is a tool to help individuals to access their creative core and to enter into a conscious dialogue with their own biography in order to come closer to their own being and find renewed confidence. Its method is to look closely at events in the past with devotion to detail and yet to look at them as if we are watching someone else’s life, as an observer. This brings us the possibility to see emerging patterns and behaviours and enables us to consciously change them.

What happens during a session?

During a biographical counselling session you will decide what you would like to talk about. The counsellor might ask questions or make comments at times. These are meant to help you to reflect on the issue you have brought to counselling. The counsellor will bear witness to what you say and will always listen to you in a non-judgemental manner, with discretion and respect. It is very important that you trust the person who is counselling you, and can speak openly about any issues which might concern you. Lucila sometimes uses art and creative writing as tools for the counselling process.

Frequency of sessions

The counsellor will be available on a regular weekly basis, at the same time and place, for as long as this is agreed by you and your therapist. The therapist will give notice of any breaks or unusual changes to arrangements.

If you would like to consider counselling sessions with Lucila, please let us know and we will arrange a 30-minute meeting with Lucila and yourself to discuss your needs. Sessions take place remotely; not at Calmblue.

Individual Biographical Work

Sometimes you might want to study your own biography on a one to one basis rather than in a workshop or in counselling. Lucila offers sessions for individuals who want to explore their own biography, make a life chart and understand the patterns and ‘mirrorings’ which they might find, but who do not want to engage in counselling.

Payment accepted by bank transfer. If you need to cancel a booking, please let us know 48 hours before your session to avoid cancellation charges.
